HIGH INTEREST AT SOUTH DEVONS’ CLUB SALE AT EXETER

The South Devon Cattle Breeders Club Sale at Exeter saw strong entries of bulls and a range of heifers and cows/calves on offer. 

All veterinary inspected seven pedigree bulls sold, topping at 5,000 gns for R A Rundle’s Kestle Harper 2, a two year old by Blatchford Harper and out of Kestle Dahlia 70, who sold to Messrs WW Williams & Son from Helston, Cornwall.  Next highest price was for Mr & Mrs R C Burrough & Sons’ Godworthy Eclipse 77, another two year old with bloodlines including Waddeton, Sellstead and Godworthy, who sold to Mr I Booth from Crewe in Cheshire. 

A lovely bunch of two year old heifers from the Rufford herd in Staffordshire sold for R W Bostelmann at an average of £1,890.

Averages: 7 pedigree bulls = £3,795; 3 breeding bulls = £1,768; 7 pedigree bulling heifers = £1,320; 6 pedigree cows/calves = £1,315; 4 breeding cows/calves = £1,588

The Sale included the dispersal of Chloe Quantick’s Blatchford pedigree South Devons.  The two bulls sold for 2,800 and 2,200 gns to K Finch from Crick, Northamptonshire, and to The Tully Partnership, Brixham, Devon respectively.  Pedigree cows and calves topped at 2,600 gns for Trevoulter Francesca 3, a 7-year old cow with male calf at foot, selling to Mr R B Quantick from Newton Abbot.  Next highest price was 2,400 gns for Z Beckaveans Bryher 2 with heifer calf at foot, selling to Messrs R J Rew & Son from Newton Abbot. 

Averages of Blatchford dispersal: 2 pedigree bulls = £2,625; 11 pedigree cows with calves = £1,990; 1 pedigree cow = £1,785; 3 pedigree heifers = £1,365
