STRONG TRADE TO 9,500 GNS FOR SOUTH DEVONS AT EXETER

The South Devon Society’s Spring Sale at Exeter saw a confident trade for bulls and heifers with buyers both in attendance and bidding from a distance on Marteye.  Bull averages increased by £359 since the Autumn Sale at Worcester, and by £132 since the most recent Spring Sale at Exeter in 2019.

The top bull price reached 9,500 gns for Z Mutterton Kyoto 17 offered by A H & E M Bartley from East Devon, selling to J & B Fentem & Sons from Ashbourne, Derbyshire.  This bull was born 24th March 2019, is heterozygous polled and with a myostatin status of ‘1’ F94L.  Sired by X Arncliffe Kyoto and out of AI Z Mutterton Pansy 7, his breeding extends to Shorland, Lumbylaw, Billingsley, Clobred and Northwick bloodlines.  Dam Pansy 7 has an impressive herd competition record and is rated Excellent in type classification.

Next highest price at 6,600 gns was for J & S White Farms’ Broadwood Haystacks, down from Brampton Ash in Leicestershire.  He sold to R J & C J Edwards from Colcharton, Tavistock, Devon.  This bull is another ‘1’ F94L myostatin status, and by Stretchford Herman 7 who was 2019 Best Bull in the Midland South Devon Cattle Breeders Club herd competition.  Dam is Goffe Cave Gemini 15.  Bloodlines include George Teign, Sexton, Grove, Welland Valley and Juniper.

At 5,600 gns was Kestle Dominator 2 for Mr R K Rundle from Newquay, Cornwall, selling to Mr S Clarke, Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire.  Sired by Welland Valley Dominator 2 and out of AI Kestle Tulip 89 the bull is a ‘1’ nt821 myostatin status, and carries genetics from North View and Erme breeding.

The heifer section was topped by a March 2019-born maiden, again by Welland Valley Dominator 2.  She sold for 3,000 gns to the same buyer of the 5,600 gn bull, Mr S Clarke from Burton-on-Trent.  Dam Kestle Dahlia 81 is by Goffe Cave Sturdy Away, and with successful showing history on the maternal side.

Next highest female at 2,500 gns was for A H & E M Bartley’s Mutterton Clary 24, selling to D Trewern & Son from Penzance, Cornwall.  This heifer is by homebred polled bull Z Mutterton Kyoto 12 and out of Mutterton Clary 10 who is a daughter of Society Proven Bull Welland Valley Dynamic 6.
