Entries for Skipton Sale 2017

Entries are invited for the forthcoming regional sale at Skipton on Wednesday 8th November, and that forms are available from the SDHBS office.

Mr Mervyn Rowe elected President of the World South Devon Association

The Society is delighted that Mr Mervyn Rowe from Tregondale Farm, Menheniot, Cornwall was elected President of the World South Devon Association at the recent World Conference in South Africa. 

Mervyn will hold the post for three years, during which time he will encourage closer connections with our fellow South Devon organisations around the world. 

The next World Congress will be hosted in New Zealand in 2020.

Winner’s Open Day - National Herd Comp

Congratulations to the winner of this year’s National Herd Competition – Julian & Sara White, whose Broadwood herd of pedigree South Devons is based at Brampton Ash, Market Harborough, Leicestershire.  The Winner’s Open Day will be held on Thursday 28th September beginning at 1 pm, and if you would like to come and see this 90 cow herd, please would you let the SDHBS office know (01392 447494, This email address is being protected from spambots. South Devons take on Female Linear Assessment Service

Earlier this year the Society decided to offer to its members the independent measuring service managed by NBDC (National Bovine Data Centre).  Council agreed to offer the first 20 herds a financial incentive of £100 each, and already those 20 herd places have been filled.  The Society looks forward to seeing a roll-out of the service, which will enable herds to benchmark and assess their female breeding stock, at the same time as providing potential buyers a valuable insight into breeding potential.
